DIGNITY FOUNDATION
Dignity Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation which offers life enrichment services for senior citizens, including social support systems for elders who are abused, harassed or lonely.
The goal of the foundation is to rid the minds of the senior citizens of the fear that age means decline and retirement means loneliness, isolation, loss of prestige. The foundation works assiduously to re-instil in the elderly minds the confidence that age and productivity are not mutually exclusive. It does this by utilising their experience and maturity in activities that serve the needs of the community.

There was a wonderful Interactive session on 2 Peg Ke Baad Confessions between Dr. Nikita and geriatrics about the mischievous and crazy happenings during their youth, 2 peg ke baad…. And everyone enjoyed and appreciated her gesture of taking out time to read a portion of book to them.
Few more catch up candid moments of the event
I know my readers too want to hear what Dr. Nikita told us in quick chit chat…
Q# Why did you choose to host a book reading session at Dignity Foundation?
Dr. Nikita: As a kid my mom used to fill me up with stories, as a way to make me eat or sleep or listen to what she was saying. Unfortunately, I never got a chance to narrate any of my stories to my mother – since I have been staying away from home for a very long time now. But, the idea of narrating my story from someone smarter and wiser than I am sounds very exciting to me. People in that age don’t just buy any thing you give them. You must be either really interesting or should be really making sense out of everything you are saying.
Q # How are you feeling after the event?
Dr. Nikita: In one word if you ask me – ‘refreshing’! I haven’t been fortunate to have grand parents around, and I never realised missing anything. But, after this event I wish I had few moments with them. The best part of the event was, it was more of a get together than a reading event. And it was fun!
Q# What was the reaction of the people after the event? Any praises that you received?
Dr. Nikita: We all had fun over chai, singing, jokes and a lot of stories. I was expecting praises, as a post event gesture, and well, there were few. About the stories, about the book, about myself, and I am extremely grateful to have received them. After the event was over, while we were leaving, a gentle man walked up to me saying, “we really needed that! People organise classes and exercises and lectures for us, but this was refreshing for us, something different, and we should often have discussions and sessions like this one”, Mr. Madhav.
After listening to his comment, I couldn’t possibly want more.
Thanks Dr. Nikita for taking out time and making this event so memorable for lifetime…
