Happily married-Real sense

Day 7

Lavish marriage, sangeet , haldi , guests , food …this is dream of every bride & groom.

Abhay Deware and Preeti Kumbhare also had so many dreams for their marriage. Abhay is an IRS officer undergoing training at the Nagpur-based National Academy of Direct Taxes (NADT) and Preeti is working as assistant manager with IDBI Bank’s Mumbai branch when they got to know about the expenditure occurred on marriages and was shocked to see the statistics. He came across a survey where it was mentioned that over Rs1 lakh crore were spent in India every year on marriages. “It’s a staggering amount in poor country like ours where even the budget is around Rs16 lakh crore. The study further mentioned that despite huge disparity in the standard of living, people spend anywhere from Rs3 lakh-Rs 5 crore on a wedding, they decided to bring change and do something for those poor farmers family who committed suicide.

They tied knot at Abhiyanta Bhavan in Amravati, in simple way, and farm activist Chandrakant Wankhede addressed the people on the farmers’ suicides.

Young couple donated Rs20,000 each to 10 farmers’ families where farmer committed suicide due to debts and successive crop failures. Not only this this young couple lead an example by providing books of competitive examinations worth Rs52,000 to five libraries in Amravati, including at their native village Umbarda Bazaar in Karanja Lad.

Surprised to know that menu of their wedding was very simple including chapati, rice, dal, and sabji, and without any sweet.

Abhay says “The idea was revolving in the mind ever since I met President Pranab Mukherjee during his field visit. He advised us to become an agent of socio-economic change. Fortunately, even my wife was having similar thoughts. My in-laws also supported us and they were the ones who took the lead in finding out families where farmers had ended their lives,”

Hats off to this young inspiring couple & their parents who supported them.

I take pride to wish them a very happy & healthy married life ahead from all over here who are reading this post.

    • most of the people think that spending money on wedding is a waste expenditure but to be frank 1wedding survives many people like band-Baja.Sweets,decoration,florist,vegetables,clothing, paints , tenthouse, catering and for me (wedding photographers and videographers).….…wedding provides work and money for so many so many people.it reduces the problem of unemployment in india to some extent. Even our Government can not provide at time such job opportunities. so people&Media dont think that spending money on wedding is waste .

  1. I was inspired the moment I first read the news. It takes a large heart to sacrifice such a luxury of a once in a life event and instead help humanity. Great respect to them.

  2. I have read about this wedding before. 🙂 What an inspired thought. I hope that when the time comes for me, the function can be kept a very simple one too. 😀

PS: There might be a comment or two from me that has gone to spam. Please rescue it from there and publish. 🙂

  3. we need more such people of progressive thinking, we mostly spend on pampering people at weddings, who’ll later say the rasgulla was not enough sweet, Dall makhni was not that awesome etc. Thanks for sharing this through your blog 🙂

      • Point but people don’t use money, they waste money and u know with how much efforts a girl’s parents does for that one day & to add upon the burden. That’s clearly not employment when u burden the one family just to drink, eat and have merry for one night. What about the flowers that goes waste, who plant the trees that they deserve to pick them just to have a shiny background ? What about food that people waste that day ? more than 1 million people till date sleep without proper 1 square meal and u talk of employment. I still don’t support ur view point, am sorry of am rude while replying.

  4. Yes, what this couple did is quite major and God bless them! It’s inspiring to see such events taking place and learning about them!

    Cheers

    • Hi!! It’s not at all like that …couple who thought to sacrifice their D-day luxury has given up life to family by may b small gesture but it’s an example which everyone don’t dare to do…
Now coming to point that bread n butter of florist n all catering now I have someone in my family who is in this business n believe me now a days everybody gives order to 5 star hotel for catering not some local halwai… They want only orchids to be used for decoration not simple florist to do … Yes, some people may give these orders to them but trust me who can effort LUXURY don’t give any employment to them…Once marriage season comes all of them get employment!!!
This is great step taken by young couple & I think we should appreciate it…
