Rotavirus Infections and How They Can Be Treated

Top post on IndiBlogger, the biggest community of Indian Bloggers

You might not be aware of the fact that the Rotavirus is responsible for the inflammation of the intestines as well as the stomach. This, in turn, can cause diarrhea in both the infants and the children in every nook and corner of the world.

The Rotavirus can affect the children who are below three years of age and have not been vaccinated yet. It is extremely important to treat the infections that are caused as a result of Rotavirus to stay protected.

What Causes the Rotavirus Infections?

The Rotavirus consists of the double-stranded RNA, which is enclosed by outer layers known as the capsid. There are chances that a child is infected by various strains of this virus.

This is why children can have different kinds of Rotavirus infection. Adults can also get the Rotavirus infection, but they are not as severe when compared to the infections in the children and infants. In children, this virus can even lead to death.

Studies have claimed that this virus is responsible for the death of more than fifty-thousand children all over the world.

Risk Factors

Rotavirus is commonly known to infect the children and the infants, though adults can be infected too. It is important to keep in mind that the Rotavirus infection is contagious, and it is best to maintain a distance from the one who is affected.

This is why it can be extremely risky to put your child in a daycare where many other children visit. Chances are, one or two children can be infected with the Rotavirus, and your child can be infected from them, as it is highly contagious. Rotavirus starts affecting the children by three years.

How is Rotavirus Treated

Rotavirus

Normally, the Rotavirus infection is treated by a pediatrician. If the condition is severe and complicated, the emergency or specialist physicians may treat the infection.

The doctors state that no particular treatment is appropriate for the Rotavirus infection. The treatment involves drinking lots of fluid so as to prevent the body from getting dehydrated. Many times, children also require intravenous fluids to prevent dehydration.

Conclusion

Normally, the Rotavirus infection starts resolving itself after nine days, if the immunity of a child is strong. If not, the doctors will suggest a few medicines along with a proper fluid intake to get rid of the infection.
