Top 8 Breathtaking Beaches in Maui must visit

With over 30 miles of some of the most breathtaking beaches in the world, Maui is the place to be to soak up the sun and watch the waves break over the surf. Imagine spending hours relaxing on a sandy beach with nothing but the blue sky and the ocean’s sounds.

Surfers love heading to the North Shore of Maui where some of the best waves come in, making an adventurous outing on the water. Maybe you like jet skiing off the shore or learning how to paddleboard. No matter what you have in mind, Maui will have it!

Try your hand at snorkeling in the same outstanding destination or just enjoy a week of beach hopping in Maui. You will not be disappointed with the public and private beaches. But, drop your bags and extra gear with a luggage storage service to enjoy all Maui’s beaches offer.

Ka’anapali Beach

Spend the day at one of Maui’s best beaches. Ka’anapali Beach offers a lot of amenities close by, including Whalers Village Shopping Center. The soft sand is perfect for lounging in the sun and staring off at the crystal clear water.

You can rent a stand-up paddleboard, surfboard, or boogie board at the beach or try your hand at parasailing. Rent a boat and head out on an adventure! Head over to the Black Rock and jump into the ocean or go snorkeling.

Makena Beach State Park

Made up of the Big Beach and the Little Beach, Makena Beach State Park actually has three entrances that visitors can use. When in Maui you have to visit the most photographed beach in Hawaii. It is truly a magnificent sight to see.

Big Beach is the largest stretch of beach and you have to cross it to get to Little Beach. Big Beach is a popular spot for weddings and often you can witness a lovely celebration while you are sunbathing.

Swimming at Big Beach is not for inexperienced ocean swimmers. This beach is notorious for harsh waves that will pull even the most experienced swimmer under. If you plan on swimming in the ocean, head over to Little Beach where it is a bit safer.

Wai’anapanapa State Park

These 120 acres of protected land have it all for a fun camping weekend in Maui. With several camping areas where you can pitch a tent and rental cabins for those not into tent camping, you can spend a few nights listening to the surf break on the shore.

Wai’anapanapa State Park is filled with natural beauty overflowing with breathtakingly lush flora that encompasses all that Hawaii is best known for. Head to the sand for some time soaking up the sun or dive into the ocean for a refreshing swim.

Baldwin Beach Park

Head to Maui’s North Shore and visit Baldwin Beach Park for a few hours of fun in the sun. One of the most popular beaches in the North Shore region of Maui, this beach is the ultimate place to sit back and relax.

Located just outside Paia Town, Baldwin Beach is also near Paia Bay. It is a great place to hunt for interesting seashells, do a little skimboarding, go jogging, or swimming. Bring a big beach towel and work on your tan while here.

If you have young children with you, head to the west side of Baldwin Beach where a sheltered water pool has formed near the seawall. This fun spot is the ideal place for kids to try out their swimming skills.

Beaches in Maui

Kapalua Bay

Surrounded by the Kapalua Resort and various condominiums, Kapalua Bay is one of the most stunning sheltered beaches in Maui. It is still open to the public and is an excellent place to spend time with lots of other tourists and locals.

In 1991, the Travel Channel named Kapalua Bay the Best Beach in America. It is a terrific place for snorkeling where you can see the humuhumunukunukuapuaa. Yes, that really is a fish and the former official fish of Hawaii!

If you are lucky, you will also get a glimpse of the Green Hawaiian Sea Turtle, parrotfish, butterflyfish, and scorpionfish when you are snorkeling at Kapalua Bay.

Honolua Bay

Located north of Lahaina on Maui, Honolua Bay is most famous for its amazing waves that are excellent for surfing. Honolua Bay is also another wonderful place to try your hand at snorkeling. You can see much of the vibrant sea life just offshore!

During the winter, surfers from around the world flock here to practice their skills and prepare for competitions. During the summer, it is perfect for scuba divers to enjoy the world under the sea and learn about the sea life found close to shore.

While at Honolua Bay, stick around until sunset to see one of the most spectacular sunsets in all of Maui. You will not be disappointed with the color explosions that occur right before your eyes.

Hamoa Beach

Head over to East Maui and visit Hamoa Beach, a unique crescent shape that offers fantastic ocean views. Part of the beach is a private beach for the Travaasa Hana Hotel, so make sure you stay in the area designated for the public.

Enjoy swimming, surfing, snorkeling, and sunbathing. Pack a picnic and spend an afternoon on this fabulous beach. Bring a blanket and your sunscreen for a relaxing time and plan to stay for the beautiful sunset. This is one of the most loved Beaches in Maui.

Ho’okipa Beach Park

Best known as one of the best water sports beaches in the entire world, Ho’okipa Beach Park is the place to be to watch some of the best professional water sports athletes in action.

You can even try your hand at windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding, kiteboarding, and surfing. Head up to Ho’okipa Lookout for amazing ocean views! Snap awe-inspiring photos of the Maui sunset while here.

The Green Hawaiian Sea Turtle comes ashore at Ho’okipa Beach often. These are endangered species and you should keep your distance from them. You can still zoom in with your camera for wonderful photos but you need to respect the turtles.

Beaches in Maui

When visiting Maui, let’s face it, you will be spending the majority of your time on the beach. There are so many fantastic options to choose from and you really cannot go wrong with any of them.

Plan your trip to include exploring several of the public beaches, collecting seashells, swimming, sunbathing, or maybe trying something a bit more adventurous such as surfing, windsurfing, or paddleboarding.

So, which is your favorite among all beaches in Maui?
