The best Indian Television show love to watch

In the many, shows that cover the sparkling universe that is an Indian television, a few strike a chord with viewers in a way that resonates across household cultures, economic strata and age groups. They have now etched for themselves a permanent place in the hearts of the Indian public who have a smorgasbord of entertainment to choose from. And that’s saying something!

Let’s take a look at some of these eyeball grabbing shows that have India hooked to their television sets.

Taarak Mehta Ka Oolthah Chashmah:

High on the list of India’s foremost comedy series, this quirky show is one of the longest-running, currently. Its kooky characters and hilarious situation-led storylines are based on Duniya Ne Undha Chashma written by columnist and journalist/playwright Taarak Mehta for the Gujarati weekly magazine, Chitralekha. Each riotous and hilarity ensured weekends in a moral or learning.

The actors have been aptly cast, with each character’s evolvement through the show, very well thought out. The foremost of these characters is Jethalal Gada, who hilariously makes his way through the conundrum that is his family made up of his amusing wife, Daya, who unintentionally always ends up insulting Jetha, a mischievous son, Tapu, and his father who is comical but who scares Jetha more often than not.  The rest of the cast is equally interesting, each having a silly quirk that makes them endearing but funny. Their loyal audience is hooked on to see what the residents of the Gokuldham Society – where the Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah unfolds – are up to, week after week. Watch this light-hearted but lovable show on the Idea Movies & TV app, to get in your daily giggle.

The Kapil Sharma Show Season 2:

Indian Television

This hour-long entertainer has Indian families laughing their hearts out for the better part of an hour. Split into two segments, the first of which is usually a skit performed by the uninhibited characters of the show, the most popular among them, being, Dr. Mashoor Gulati, Rinku Bhabi, Gutthi, Dadi and Nani, and the second being a humorous interview with prominent personalities, including the likes of Bollywood superstars. Available for viewing on the Idea Movies and TV app, the Kapil Sharma Show Season 2, has tapped into the essential ingredients of Indian television; irreverent and laugh-till-your-belly-hurts comedy, and the grip that Bollywood superstars have on the country. The characters often end up involving the guest in their skit, resulting in extremely funny, situational, impromptu comedy. The unique flavor the show renders to its audience is the comedic interaction between its actors and the Bollywood guests. Their fans get to see the fun side of the actors and the often hilarious situations they are placed in with the show’s characters.

CID:

This show took on a cult status, running for 21 years. Families across the country have had CID as a constant fixture on their TV screens for years, claiming it is an indispensable part of their television journey, every evening. It is the cast of CID that stole the show. The iconic ensemble made up of ACP Pradyuman, known for his legendary temper and zeal for justice, Inspector Dayanand is lovingly known as Daya, Inspector Abhijeet, Dr. Tarika, and others, band together to form a team of police offers who take on crime and unsolved murders.

These are of course just a few of the many beloved shows that reign supreme in the hearts of the Indian audience. An affinity towards a particular character that relates to them, the existential joy and anxieties reflected in the sometimes hilarious, sometimes serious, and mostly heartening situations depicted in these shows, and the sheer ability these television favorites have of creating that common thread that binds everyone who watches that can’t live hour of entertainment, is what makes them favorites.
