Road Trip- Rent a Car This Time

Making plans for road trips around Bangalore can get a bit complex – figuring out routes and changing transport means, dependency on autos and buses, and of course, the costs involved when one decides to upgrade to a cab. Many travelers are now taking the matter into their own hands, literally. Self-drive cars in Bangalore are changing the lifestyles of many, giving people the privileges of car-ownership, without them having to make that big investment.

A Bouquet of Destinations

There is no dearth of destinations to enjoy if one is looking for unique adventures. The peaks of the Nilgiris beckon all year round, whether one is looking for misty valleys or the frigid frost touched mornings of winter. Some of the best hill stations in the Nilgiris include Ooty, Kodaikanal, and Munnar. Heritage toy trains, old wooden buildings, and expansive tea gardens remind the visitor of the colonial influences, while the pristine jungles filled with elephant herds and prowling cats is a testimony to the natural wealth of this place.

For more culture, a road trip to Mysore is always recommended. The city of palaces is also famous for its gardens and temples. The markets of Mysore are always buzzing and its most famous exports are its rich silk and its sandalwood treasures. A drive to the Chamundi Hills just outside the city is a quintessential Mysore activity, as the gently curving roads and green forests offer panoramic views of the entire region.

Spectacular landscape and ruins of a great and ancient civilization greet the visitors who go to Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Architecture lovers will rejoice in this temple city by the Tungabhadra. The stone chariot of the Vittala temple complex and the Virupaksha Temple are just some of the highlights of the great engineering and aesthetics of the Vijayanagar Empire.

There are some very interesting destinations that are just outside the city of Bangalore, perfect for a day trip. A drive to Skandagiri for an exciting night trek is one of the offbeat activities that the city’s adventurer’s love. Bannerghatta National park includes a zoo with a wildcat safari and a crocodile park and is just 23 km from Bangalore.

There are many advantages to choosing a car rental over regular cabs or buses. One can choose from a wide range of vehicles, whether it is a hatchback ideal for that solo business trip to Mysore, or a sturdy SUV to conquer the jungles of Coorg. Companies like Zoomcar have brought the car rental into the new age with app-based booking and cashless transactions.

Choosing self-drive also allows the traveler (or travelers) more privacy. It gives the driver freedom to change routes or take detours at any time. So the road trip to Ooty can suddenly include a stop at Channapatna or Mysore. For business trips also, a rented car allows more control over schedule and time – no more figuring out local transport for that important meeting followed by the site visit. Freedom and flexibility is something more and more are discovering through car rentals and along with it the many destinations and surprises that Karnataka has to offer.

  3. Thanks for sharing this. I am travel freak, so I always prefer renting a car instead of using my own car.Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.
People often have a theme that they base their worldly travels on, but how about a mental mantra for your travel? Out of a cheerleading event that consisted of our family shouting supportive words at our daughter who was attempting to kill a rather monstrous spider that the rest of us were too chicken to get close to, came this great quote, “If you don’t think, and you just do….then it’s done!”

This quote came back to haunt me when on vacation in Seattle. I thought it would be a great idea to take the kids on the Seattle Great Wheel, the ferris wheel overlooking the ocean, but as we approached it, I realized how high it went and immediately panicked! Just as I had decided to put the kids on it on their own, my daughter says, “Come on dad…If you don’t think, and you just do….then it’s done!” What could I do at that point?! She was telling me to stop thinking and creating more fear about the situation and just get on the thing!

  4. A bit surirpsed it seems to simple and yet useful.
