Oral Health Advice for a Healthy New Year

Oral Health Advice

With the holidays fast approaching, we are preparing ourselves for the feast of goodies that we all indulge in at this time of the year. While it is great to eat and drink to excess, we should always remember to practice good oral hygiene. Oral hygiene is always important, especially at this time of year. With that in mind, here are some tips to ensure that the festive season does not affect the health of your teeth and gums.

Using Antiseptic Mouthwash – If you carry a small bottle of antiseptic mouthwash around with you, you can swill and rinse at any time. You might be at a party, and after some appetizers, pop into the bathroom and rinse out your mouth, which will remove trapped particles of food. If, for example, you plan on drinking some red wine, this can stain your teeth, and regular rinsing with a mouthwash reduces the risk of staining.

Schedule Teeth Whitening Treatment – If you book Sydney CBD laser teeth whitening for some time in early January, your teeth will first be professionally cleaned, and that will remove any built-up plaque that may have accumulated over the holiday period. Of course, that doesn’t mean you can forget your usual oral hygiene practices, which should include brushing and flossing after every meal and before and after sleep. Plus, you should also use antiseptic mouthwash after eating snacks or drinking wine or coffee, both of which are known to cause staining of the teeth.

Try to Avoid Too Much Sugar – It can be difficult to keep your sugar intake down, especially during the festive season when there are so many tasty treats on offer. With a little self-control, you can make sure that you don’t over-indulge in sweet things, something that your teeth will be very grateful for. There is also an informative article about how to maintain good oral hygiene during the Christmas festival, which might help you avoid things that are not good for your teeth and gums.

Quit Smoking – If you are a smoker, why not make it your New Year’s Resolution to quit the habit once and for all? You can buy some nicotine gum and chew that every time you feel like lighting a cigarette. Aside from the obvious health benefits, stopping smoking will really help you to maintain good oral hygiene. If you manage to quit, this will be a major step that will save you a lot of money and you will feel much better for it.

While we all wish to enjoy ourselves during the holidays, you really should make sure that you are extra vigilant regarding brushing and flossing, as this will go a long way to maintaining healthy teeth and gums throughout the long holiday. We do sometimes take oral health for granted, so try to remember that it is more important than ever to keep your teeth and gums clean during this time of eating and drinking.
