Movie relates – Tadka Tuesday

Movie with which I can relate what is still going on in our society is “Lajja”
lajja-300x300
A woman oriented powerful movie that talks of the evils of Indian society aimed at women. Manisha Koirala wants to run away from her husband (Jackie Shroff) but when she learns she is pregnant, her husband tries to snatch the child from her. As she escapes America and comes to India, she encounters Mythili (Mahima Chaudhury) a bride-to-be, Janaki (Madhuri Dixit) a theatre artist and Ramdulari (Rekha) a village midwife. All these women are the targets of male oppression . Lajja deals with a myriad of women’s’ issues to triumph as a power packed performance oriented film.
Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. In 2001, The movie satirises the honour with which women are placed in society and the restrictions on them. The fact that the four women’s names (Maithili, Janki, Ramdulaari, and Vaidehi) are all versions of Sita, the ideal Hindu woman’s name.
In today’s senario also women in many places are suffering and this movie depicts all.
I love all the songs but one dance which take away my heart is “Badi mushkil baba badi mushkil ” by Diva Madhuri Dixit and Manisha Korila.
If you have not seen this movie you have missed something. Must watch film, don’t go with box office collection.

  1. Lajja is a strong women oriented movie with some great social messages for everyone. Thanks for writing for #TadkaTuesday Ruchie. Keep writing. 🙂

  2. This is a favourite movies because of Madhuri. Totally loved the women helping women theme of the movie. Hopping over from Deepa’s blog and #Tuesday Tadka with Jaibala

  3. It’s one of the most brilliant films made by Santoshi and critically looking at women belonging to different social classes. The plight of women are the same irrespective of class. I love this song but also the one performed by Sonali. I love the dialogue by Mahima on dowry and Anil Kapoor as the thief. Come and beat that!

  4. Lajja is a very bold and strong movie on women and unfortunately didnt do good business. But all movies are not about business right. It has strong acting and a very nice strory line with all women having a name of Sita.

  5. I like female oriented movies and Lajja is one of them. This movie particularly shows that women in all walks of life are subjected to various kinds of male domination and subjugation, just because they are women. madhuri my special always!
