Love for trees- Daripalli Ramaiah

Recipient of the Padma Shri award for the year 2017, Daripalli Ramaiah is a living example of one among those eco-warrior who live for a mission to give back to nature what they get from it.

Based in Reddipalle in Telangana’s Khammam district, Daripalli Ramaiah is fondly called and known as “Chettu (tree) Ramaiah” or “Vanajeevi (forester) Ramaiah

Leaving his education after 10th, he never left his passion for planting trees and plants. His love for nature and trees is beyond expression. He faced the humiliation of society being called mentally unstable but his love not stopped.

On his cycle, with plant saplings and seeds in the pocket, he used to pedal kilometers just to get a place or land where he can plant sapling or seeds. While he is on this mission he always has a board around his neck with the slogan: “Vriksho Rakshati Rakshitaha” (Save trees, it will save you).

With full support from his wife Janamma, mentioned in the leading newspaper the challenges they faced by the locals who used to make fun of Daripalli Ramaiah of carrying these saplings and seeds, but this never affects his motives of making earth green.

He is on a mission and that is for future generation he wants to bring back the green cover all over and even he lost the count how many he planted so far. Estimation says more than 100 thousand or above saplings in and around Khammam district.

He needs to give coming generation fruit-bearing plants, biodiesel plants, and trees that can provide shade.

He is just carrying forward his mother’s learning who used to save seeds of vegetable plants for next season and so since then he has been collecting seeds and planting for coming tomorrow which would be more green and covered with trees and plants.
